Formation
St. Stephen’s is committed to helping form whole Christians in mind, body, and soul through various Bible and book studies and opportunities for prayer and spiritual life development. Discipleship is for all of us to do and for all of us to receive throughout our lives, as we grow in communion with the Lord Jesus and one another.

Evening and Weekend Offerings
A Pint with the Priest
3rd Tuesday, 6pm Park Inn 103 W. 9th Ave. (year-round)
What’s the perfect place to talk theology and the beliefs of the Episcopal Church? Well, there probably isn’t a perfect place, but it certainly is more interesting to do at a local watering hole! It is also much less intimidating when sharing a pint of any kind of beverage of your choice. We will explore a range of topics and issues from the basics on Christianity to the finer details of theology, philosophy and social issues. We converse about whatever you bring to the table, so there is no set agenda. All are truly welcome, theist or atheist, Christian or not and everything in between!
Daytime Offerings
Brewing in the Bible
Tuesdays 8:45-9:45am on Zoom (year-round)
Join us for a group dedicated to the close reading and thoughtful discussion of Old Testament scripture. Each session focuses on exploring the text in sequence, encouraging participants to connect its teachings to everyday life. Through guided conversations, this group seeks to deepen understanding of how each passage fits into the broader context of scripture. All are welcome to join and participate in meaningful reflection and fellowship.

Gospel Based Discipleship
Tuesdays 10-11am on Zoom (year-round)
This small group will analyze the upcoming week’s gospel passage. Using a modified Lectio Divina format that is embedded in a brief Morning Prayer service, the gospel passage will be read aloud three times from three different Bibles translations. Participants discuss a common question after each reading:
1. What stands out from the reading?
2. What is Jesus telling me and what do I wonder about regarding the passage?
3. What is Jesus telling me to do with the information?

Centering Prayer
1st Wednesday of the month, 9-10am in the Chapel (year-round)
Set aside some meaningful time for quiet prayer, cultivating a deeper relationship with God, simply resting in God beyond thoughts, words and emotions. Centering prayer is not meant to replace other kinds of prayer; rather it casts a new light and depth of meaning, going beyond conversation with Christ to communion with Him. No experience is necessary to join those who gather during this time.

Digging Deeper
Wednesdays 10:30-Noon, Conference Room (year-round)
If you want to dig deeper into the Gospel for this year’s lectionary cycle, then this group is for you. We have slowly been working our way through Luke’s gospel, and we will continue to do so until the end of November this fall. We do some historical background of the text, but we do so with an ear to how we can convert that learning to how we apply it to our lives right now in the world we live in today. No questions are off the table, so come for an honest conversation and deepening your understanding of your faith through the Gospel of Luke.

Sacred Ground
Every 2nd and 4th Thursday 4:30-5:30pm, Zoom, starting October 9 (11 sessions)
This is a sensitive and prayerful series that is a dialogue on race and racism – a product of Katrina Browne, who is a lifelong Episcopalian and the producer/director. It is comprised of documentary films, short videos and readings. We will be reflecting on family histories and important narratives that share the collective American story. It invites us to walk back through history in order to peel away the layers that brought us to today. Our “guiding star” will be a vision of beloved community, where all people are honored and protected and nurtured as beloved children of God.
