Ministries

Beyond the Sunday services…

Dismissed at the end of each Holy Eucharist to go forth and serve the Lord and each other, our parishioners work together in a number of ministries to share Christ’s light and build up the Kingdom of God in our community. Here are but a few of these very important ministries.

Vestry

Our priest is assisted by this conciliar body of nine elected lay people in making important decisions for the life of our church family. Vestry meets the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 in the parish hall.

Choir

Led by Logan Shevalier and Christian Skok, our choir (composed of both parishioners and trained section leaders) sings music from a variety of traditions on Sunday mornings and during special services. Choir practices at 8:30 on Sunday morning before the 10AM service.

Formation

A combined effort between clergy and lay teachers, St. Stephen’s works hard to provide seasonal and weekly sessions year-round focused on Christian education, prayer, and spirituality.

St. Martha’s Altar Guild

The altar guild is responsible for decorating the sanctuary, setting up for all services, and beautifying our church. Altar guild meets the fourth Saturday of the month at 10:30 in the side chapel.

Welcome

Welcoming newcomers and life-long parishioners alike, this group works hard to extend Christ’s hospitality to everyone that walk’s through our door at weekend liturgies and special events throughout the year.

Landscape + Creation Care

Having been blessed with expansive grounds on Spokane’s South Hill, St. Stephen’s maintains an outdoor chapel, labyrinth, and other nature spaces for neighborhood use. This ministry committee meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 1PM.

Outreach

Charitable fundraising and giving to community organizations is the focus of our outreach committee, which hosts our annual Share Your Love fundraiser, among other events.

Pastoral Care + Eucharistic Visitors

Guided by Deacon Elaine Pitzer, lay eucharistic visitors pray together and visit the sick in our community, bringing them Christ’s Body and Blood and sharing His word.

Acolytes + Eucharistic Ministers

Our clergy are assisted at the altar by parishioners who are responsible for reading from scripture during services, as well as distributing Holy Communion and carrying candles. Youth serve as acolytes at special services, while specially trained Eucharistic Ministers assist at ordinary Sunday liturgies. To get involved, reach out to Deacon Elaine Pitzer!
